National Migration Week from a Viatorian Perspective

Corey Brost, csv

This week the universal Church celebrates National Migration Week, recognizing the hundreds of thousands of people fleeing, violence, war and poverty.

As Catholics contemplate ways to offer a compassionate welcome to migrants, members of the Chicago-based Priests for Justice for Immigrants filmed a series of videos giving individual perspectives and testimonials.

Fr. Corey Brost, CSV, is a member of the group and he filmed this seven-minute video explaining the asylum process. Here, Fr. Corey describes a young Afghan man, 17-year old Omar, who fled the Kabul airport and found a welcome at Viator House of Hospitality.

“It’s really important that this week, we as Catholics learn more about our asylum system, and how we can strengthen it,” Fr. Corey says, “because right now, my brothers and sisters, it is broken.”
